The National MS (Multiple Sclerosis Society) folks are holding a major cycling
event on the 17th of May 2008. Since the ride will be going through the
Blackwater Forrest and cell coverage is bad. The National MS Rep's have
contacted the Milton & Pensacola Amateur Radio community and have asked us to
help out with their Emergency Communication needs for the safety of the cyclist
that will be riding on the course. What is needed, about 20 hams to come out and
help.
I have been asked to help organize the hams to help with this event.
So here is what we are asking for:
We'll need about 7 hams for the rest/aid station along the course, 4 Sag
wagons, 1 water wagon, , Trail/sweep vehicle, net control station, Start finish area,
2 shadows operators and about 2-3 helpers/gofers.... Of course MORE IS ALWAYS
WELCOMED!!!!
There is one other thing that is need (that we usually haven't had to do for
other events), there is a tab on the spread sheet that has their waiver form they need signed...
This has something to do for their insurances needs. So I have attached this to
our spread sheet as well....
So please tell the word about this to others that may not have gotten this and
see if they can come out and assist as well.
I have attached a spread sheet here. Look it over and see where you can assist
at and let me know as soon as possible (not later than 9th of May). I well hold
a Blackwater Forrest cycling event net on the 12th of May (just after the
Escambia Emergency net, probably join in on the 28.375 - 10 mtr net too.) to
pass out any last minute changes and information about the event.... As usual,
please list your shirt size as well, so we can ensure you get the right size
shirt for helping out in this event. I will also continue sending out the
Blast/updates for this as things change and more information become available...
Also I was told that this will be a family event so you can bring the family
out as well if you like... there will be some refreshments, but they well be at
the start/finish area.. thus I suggest you have your own refreshment/bug spray
for your own site operations since some of the site will be in the Forrest.
IF there are any questions or comments, please let me know.
Again we are asking for as many hams to come out and help. Thanks all, and
hope to hear from ya'll soon.
